Throughout the semester I have picked up and learned a good amount from the work we’ve done. For this class, there are a couple of learning outcomes and they are on the academic commons website. I found some of these meaningful and to me, meaningful means that something is useful or something is important to me. The first learning outcome was “Locate research sources (including academic journal articles, magazine, and newspaper articles) in the library’s databases or archives and on the Internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias.” It is meaningful to me because in my research and my source-based essay I had to find seek sources that could back up my statement/ topic. I used websites that I found for evidence and supporting information. I was able to write an essay packed full of information. There is more information about it in the Source-Based Essay section of the website. The second learning outcome was “Develop strategies for reading, drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing.” This is meaningful to me because for all of my essays I had to go through an entire process of going through drafts, reading, analyzing, and editing them. In the process, I was also able to collaborate with my peers to review each other’s papers and give eachother advice. This process allowed me to improve and make my paper perfect over time. There is more information about it in the Research Essay and Source-Based Essay section of the website. The final learning outcome was “Compose texts that integrate your stance with appropriate sources using strategies such as summary, critical analysis, interpretation, synthesis, and argumentation.” This is meaningful to me because I learned about this and mainly used this when I was writing about cryptocurrency. I had to write and argue for a point using facts and evidence from sources. There is more information about it in the Research Essay and Composition in Two Genres section of the website.
